Formula and assumptions

Maturity amount = deposit × (1 + annual rate ÷ 4) raised to the power of (4 × years) — quarterly compounding, the near-universal convention for Indian fixed deposits.

  • Maturity amount = principal x (1 + annual rate / compoundings per year) to the power of (compoundings per year x years).
  • The rate you enter is used exactly as entered — it is not checked against any bank's actual rate.
  • Money is rounded to 2 decimal places (half up), from the exact figure.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as the Compound Interest Calculator?

Yes, with the compounding frequency fixed at quarterly — the usual way Indian banks quote FD interest — so you only need to enter the deposit, rate and tenure.

What if my bank pays interest monthly or quarterly instead of at maturity?

This calculator assumes a cumulative FD, where interest is reinvested and paid out at maturity. A payout FD that pays interest periodically will give you less at maturity, since nothing is reinvested.

Does this account for TDS on the interest?

No. The interest earned shown is before any tax deducted at source.
