Exclusive counting measures the elapsed span between two dates: for example, 1 January to 31 January has 30 elapsed days ($31 - 1 = 30$). Inclusive counting includes both the starting calendar day and the ending calendar day, resulting in 31 total days ($30 + 1 = 31$), which is standard for rental agreements, attendance logs, and hotel stays.
