Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Chassis Financing and On-Road CV Financing?
Commercial vehicles are often invoiced by vehicle manufacturers (Tata, Ashok Leyland, Eicher, BharatBenz) as bare chassis or cowl chassis. Transporters have to separately fabricate the cargo body, tipper cabin, or tanker. Some specialized CV financiers fund up to 90% of chassis plus approved body fabrication costs, while others finance strictly against the chassis ex-showroom. This calculator includes body building, RTO road taxes, insurance, and compliance accessories into the total on-road capital project.
Why do commercial vehicle lenders collect Advance EMIs?
Commercial vehicle loans carry higher default risk than retail car loans. To mitigate initial delinquency, NBFCs and transport financiers frequently mandate 1 or 2 Advance EMIs at the time of loan disbursement. In Advance mode, the first EMI is collected upfront at delivery as an annuity-due installment, directly reducing lender exposure.
How much total upfront cash ('Margin Money') do I need at delivery?
The total delivery cash out-of-pocket is not just the down payment. It comprises: (1) Agreed Down Payment, (2) Lender Processing Fee (typically 1.5%–2.5% + 18% GST), (3) RTO Hypothecation Endorsement & Stamp Duty, and (4) Advance EMIs (if applicable). This calculator aggregates all four components so you never face a cash shortfall on delivery day.
How are Break-Even Freight Trips calculated?
Break-even trips indicate how many commercial trips your vehicle must complete in a month to cover its debt service and maintenance. It divides your total monthly fixed commitments (Vehicle EMI + Monthly Maintenance & Tyre Reserves + Driver Base Salary) by your net freight profit per trip (Gross Freight Fare minus Diesel, Tolls, Driver Bata, and Brokerage).
What depreciation rate applies to commercial vehicles under Income Tax Act Section 32?
Under Section 32 of the Indian Income Tax Act, motor buses, motor lorries, and motor taxis used in a business of running them on hire are eligible for 30% Written Down Value (WDV) depreciation (compared to 15% for general corporate motor cars). This substantial first-year tax shield helps fleet operators offset taxable freight profits.
Can I use this calculator for Commercial Vehicle Refinancing?
Yes. In fleet refinancing, lenders appraise the current market value of your existing operational trucks and lend between 70%–85% against the vehicle hypothecation to inject working capital. Simply enter the evaluated truck value as the chassis price, set body building/RTO to zero, and set your desired down payment / equity margin.
